This is my story of how I have done at letting go of some things. I started this blog when my son was in High School , during a deployment and facing big life changes. I have come out the other side of those changes. Emptynest, long since empty. Our son is now a Lt in the USMC and now we are facing exiting the Marine Corps possibly in the next few years. One thing I have learned is life is constantly in flux, so this is my life...in flux.

Running Etiquette
OK fellow bloggers, I have a question. I have recently decided to really give my heart and soul back to this Couch to 5k thing. I started to do this on our awesome mile and a half PT course here at beautiful (lol) 29 Palms. The course is about the size of a sidewalk for you city folk, maybe a bit wider. It goes out for a mile and a half and you have to go back a mile and half to get back to your car so if you go out..your coming back. Something I should have kept in mind when in the summer in about 90 degrees I decided to walk it against hubs better judgement and just about had heat stroke and thought I was going to die. So you run/walk, c25k whatever you want to do, so depending on time of day, you could potentially be out there while others are at various points coming and going. I never go during morning PT time, remember this base is the majority infantry Marines and they PT hard, morning afternoon and night so best to stick between 9-11 am and that is what I do but still there are some people out there. Here is my question. What is the proper thing to do when you are face to face passing another runner? You are coming one way, they are coming the other..and then you either do a little wave, some say a little hello, and some just ignore you like your not there?? I am confused, I don't want to be rude, sometimes I am on my way back and all I can do is muster a little wave but still feel like you should at least acknowledge this other person, right? I mean maybe it's just me. I have been greeted by Marines, other woman, so it's not a black or white issue..like Marines ignore, woman say hello. So I ask you my fellow blogger runners...is there a hard and fast rule? LOL just something light for the weekend.

In my great physical condition I am by no means a runner :) However, I would say a smile and nod would be fine. It's not like you're going to stop and chat with these folks, but some poeple may be hardcore and focused on the run, or whatever is going on in their heads, so I wouldn't be upset if someone didn't return the smile and nod. At the same time, you're not making a fool of yourself by saying hello and getting no response. Does that make any sense to anyone other than myself? Hope it helps!
I get it completely!! Thanks. I just gotta be me and wave lol.
There always seem to be people on the track here! When people run past me, I usually do the smile and nod at someone if they look casual. If they're looking really focused on their workout, I tend to just run past them and not do anything. But I don't think a little wave would heart... just keeping in mind that they may not respond in kind, like Elizabeth said :)
I can't believe I'm saying this but I TOTALLY wish we were still in 29! Couch to 5K is my new year's resolution! Pumped! Too bad I don't have a running buddy :( Boo.
Well Brie you know the exact track I am talking about then. Yes it's great for c25k because it pretty much forces you to at least distance 3 miles once your out there. Only draw back is the hot weather..no running anytime during daylight hours in the heat hear so gotta get it accomplished before heat comes back..week 2 starts today.
